چکیده
During a taxonomic study of the species Croton sect. Adenophylli occurring in Brazil, approximately 140 collections usually identified as echioides, C. rhamnifolius or rhamnifolioides caught our attention due to distinct morphology vegetative and reproductive organs. After analysis these collections, we concluded that they represent new species, sertanejus Sodré & M.J.Silva sp. nov., which was also corroborated by an anatomical their leaves. This can be differentiated pseudomonopodial branching, leaves with petioles up 1.7 cm long, 4–6 subsessile nectary glands indumentum sessile trichomes on both surfaces. Detailed descriptions, including details leaf anatomy, are provided for nov. its closely related species. We formalize synonymization kalkmannii under echioides re-evaluate typification names, order better clarify status.

Post-fire regeneration in seasonally dry tropical forest fragments in southeastern Brazil.
Seasonally dry tropical forest is one of the highly threatened biome. However, studies on the effect of fire on these tree communities are still scarce. In this context, a floristic and structural survey in three forest areas in the southeast of Brazil that were affected by fire between 14 and 25 years ago was performed with the objective of evaluating post-fire regeneration. In each site, five...
متن کاملDiscovering Karima (Euphorbiaceae), a New Crotonoid Genus from West Tropical Africa Long Hidden within Croton.
Croton scarciesii (Euphorbiaceae-Crotonoideae), a rheophytic shrub from West Africa, is shown to have been misplaced in Croton for 120 years, having none of the diagnostic characters of that genus, but rather a set of characters present in no known genus of the family. Pollen analysis shows that the new genus Karima belongs to the inaperturate crotonoid group. Analysis of a concatenated molecul...
متن کاملStress Tolerance and Ecophysiological Ability of an Invader and a Native Species in a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest
Ecophysiological traits of Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. and a phylogenetically and ecologically similar native species, Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan, were studied to understand the invasive species' success in caatinga, a seasonally dry tropical forest ecosystem of the Brazilian Northeast. To determine if the invader exhibited a superior resource-capture or a resource-conservative str...
متن کاملDistinct Leaf-trait Syndromes of Evergreen and Deciduous Trees in a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest
In seasonally dry tropical forests, tree species can be deciduous, remaining without leaves throughout the dry season, or evergreen, retaining their leaves throughout the dry season. Deciduous and evergreen trees specialize in habitats that differ in water availability (hillside and riparian forest, respectively) and in their exposure to herbivore attack (seasonal and continuous, respectively)....
متن کاملLong-Term Environmental Correlates of Invasion by Lantana camara (Verbenaceae) in a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest
Invasive species, local plant communities and invaded ecosystems change over space and time. Quantifying this change may lead to a better understanding of the ecology and the effective management of invasive species. We used data on density of the highly invasive shrub Lantana camara (lantana) for the period 1990-2008 from a 50 ha permanent plot in a seasonally dry tropical forest of Mudumalai ...
